I know where you are supposed to find textures for the overlays, as demonstrated in the photos on my google drive that I've hyperlinked here. So recently I finally figured out how to overhaul an NPC's appearance insofar as applying a RaceMenu preset, using the Export function to create a .nif and a .dds, putting them into the correct filepaths, and editing the relevant data in xEdit (no Creation Kit, hooray!). WebCreate the head for your follower using RaceMenu in Skyrim SE. Under the ‘Sculpt’ tab, select ‘ [F5] Export Head’. Name your file something memorable, such as your follower’s name. This will export a mesh (.nif) and a texture (.dds) to the folder data/SKSE/plugins/Chargen in your Skyrim SE directory. This is a mod that lets you keep some of your RaceMenu overlays hidden until you're in combat. All configurable from a MCM. The overlays fade in over a brief period of time.
