WebChanged the air filter on my JD LA140 today. The kit included a thin foam pre-filter. On the instructions with the filter (made by Briggs and Stratton), it said to saturate the foam pre-filter with oil and then squeeze the excess out. The JD owners manual doesn't say anything about saturating the pre-filter with oil, just place it in.
